Don’t Be ‘That’ Guy

Loose talk coming up just because you walked with him, wrong words spreading because you hugged him, becoming a bitch merely because you love him, a whore just because you kissed him, it’s high time we start talking up.

Some people have woven a cultural cloak for India. What is Indian culture? Who defined what comes under the umbrella of Indian culture? Moral policing has become a major problem across almost all places in India. Culture is an ever changing concept and anything that makes up Indian culture never had and will have an ever continuing position. People taking up responsibility of guardians of Indian culture are interfering into the lives of people. Moral policing is defined as a blanket term that is used to describe vigilante groups that enforce a common morality in India. Everything that they cannot accept is considered as non Indian culture, and the people are questioned and at many times even attacked physically. An infamous incident happened in Kerala in 2017. A young boy was man handled by a group of vigilantes for merely spending time with his girlfriend in park. The boy and the girl were harassed publicly and ultimately ending in the boy committing suicide. Such incidents are now becoming common. This is an issue of great concern and is into a lot of national debates nowadays. Valentine’s Day is the day of lovers when they propose their love to their loved ones. The same day can now be considered as the day of moral policing is seen the most.

Even girls and boys who are just friends fear to walk together through the roads. The eyes that shift to the corner staring at you, when you hold hands, those eyebrows that go up looking at you, those heads that turn when you walk with your girlfriend or maybe even your sister, it is high time that we stop those eyes from staring, stop those eyebrows from curling up, stop those heads from turning. In a young blood country like India, illogical outlooks should cease from existing. Act to react. It’s not merely about saying NO, but it’s about hitting back. Moral policing is mortal, kill it. One way to do that is to stop being that guy yourself.

  1. Good job people .You guys have come up with a really unique but a very depressing issue that is faced by most of the couples and friends in India. I hope your thoughts reach more and more people so that they learn to react against such judgements and also for the idle people who do not have any other work than to judge people around them unnecessarily.

  2. But do you think this problem will be solved only by ‘reacting’? And do you think its only the youth who are this way? How do you deal with the wide spread prejudices? Also the orthodox mind set of Indian people in the age group of 40 and above?

    1. Good Question.
First of all, ‘Ritwik’ represents all the men who over reacts whenever they see a girl and boy together.
To deal with the wide spread prejudices and the orthodox mind set , we need to start with educating people and we believe that this is one step towards it. 🙂

  4. You guys are back with another interesting topic!!So glad to read your post. The issue talked about, very much prevails in our society even after being advanced enough in some sections. As what is said that, ‘there are some ideologies constructed in minds of the people’. Calling own self ‘advance enough’ is not enough unless and until there is some clear cut understanding.
Once again well done guys and I hope that each and every person realizes that what we see in real is actually not real.
    Well done.👏👏👏

  5. Moral policing is a practice followed by few political parties in India. In order to abolish moral policing the exclusion of these political parties is a must.

  6. moral policing is something that deserves no place in the current society where everyone has the right to do what they want without having to worry about someone else poking their nose into it.
